ALENYO URGES UNITY AS PARLIAMENT MOVES TO TACKLE ATTACKS ON MPs AT BURIALS

Image
By Oringi Denis | AfricaPamoja-UG KAMPALA, UGANDA — Jonam County Member of Parliament Hon. Marshall Alenyo has called for political tolerance and unity, stressing that burial ceremonies should remain occasions for compassion, solidarity and respect for the bereaved, regardless of political affiliation. Speaking during a parliamentary sitting, Alenyo urged legislators to rise above partisan divisions and preserve the cultural and humanitarian values associated with attending funerals. He emphasised that MPs attend burial ceremonies to mourn with bereaved families, support grieving colleagues and pay their last respects to the deceased—not to advance political party interests. “On a very serious note, the issue of attending burials is as old as humanity. We have to attend burials of our colleagues and the people they love whenever and wherever they occur,” Alenyo said. He further underscored the need to separate political competition from the shared responsibility of supporting one anoth...

MP DRITO URGES GOVERNMENT TO DIVERSIFY RESERVES INTO GOLD, REDUCE RELIANCE ON US DOLLAR

Image
By Oringi Denis |AfricaPamoja-UG  Upper Madi County MP Martin Drito has called for a review of Uganda’s foreign reserve management policy, proposing that the country increase its gold holdings and explore alternative payment systems to reduce its reliance on the US dollar. Drito made the proposals on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, while responding to a statement by the Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, on the floor of Parliament. The legislator commended Musasizi for his detailed statement but argued that fluctuations in the value of the US dollar presented challenges that could require a policy shift in how Uganda manages its foreign exchange reserves. Drito said Uganda’s reserves are predominantly held in dollar-denominated assets, including US Treasury bonds and Treasury bills, making the country vulnerable to movements in the dollar’s value. He compared the performance of the dollar and gold since the outbreak of the war referenced in...

Why West Nile Needs and Deserves a Strong, Well-Coordinated and Agile Parliamentary Caucus

Image
By Moses Akuma Odims Development Analyst  19 October 2026 The West Nile sub-region of Uganda stands at a defining moment in its political and developmental journey. Home to nearly four million people, strategically positioned at the confluence of Uganda, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and carrying a significant national responsibility as a major host of refugees, West Nile is far more than a collection of districts. It is a critical pillar of Uganda’s national security, regional trade, and socio-economic transformation agenda. For this region to fully realise its potential and secure a fair share of the national development dividend, it requires more than individual effort or sporadic advocacy. It needs a strong, well-coordinated and agile West Nile Parliamentary Caucus one that deliberately rises above divisive politics, embraces the spirit of bipartisan multiparty democracy, and functions as an effective bridge between the people of West Nile and the national d...

He argues that juvenile justice should not be treated merely as a law enforcement responsi...

For Ora County in Zombo District, the parliamentary journey of Hon. Biyika Lawrence Songa forms an important chapter in the constituency’s political history. Songa entered Uganda’s Parliament in 2016 as the representative of Ora County. His journey brought him into the national legislative arena at a time when communities across ...
