Uganda has stepped up preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON PAMOJA) with the launch of a Shs14.24 billion emergency water supply project in Hoima City.
The project, being implemented through the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), is intended to strengthen water supply and improve reliability in Hoima ahead of the continental tournament.
NWSC Managing Director Dr Silver Mugisha said the project will develop a new water supply system drawing raw water from the River Kafu. The investment is also expected to support the continued growth of Hoima and the wider Albertine region.
AFCON PAMOJA 2027 will be jointly hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, with the tournament scheduled to run from 19 June to 17 July 2027. It will be the first Africa Cup of Nations to be jointly hosted by three countries.
Uganda's preparations also include work on stadiums and training facilities. The Uganda Local Organising Committee recently reported progress following CAF inspections of Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium, Hoima City Stadium and Mandela National Stadium, alongside training facilities.
The Hoima water investment forms part of the wider infrastructure preparations for the tournament, as Uganda works towards hosting its share of the historic East African football event.
