NEBBI, UGANDA — The 16-kilometre Nebbi–Goli road has been listed among a major network of roads earmarked for upgrading to tarmac under the Government’s planned road infrastructure programme.
According to the road programme published in the newspaper extract, a total of 826.8 kilometres of roads are listed for upgrading, with the Nebbi–Goli road included alongside other strategic routes across Uganda. The programme also lists Katine–Ochero (69km), Kumi–Ngora–Serere–Kagwara (95km), Karugutu–Ntoroko (56.5km), Karenga–Kapedo–Kaabong (68km), Jinja–Mbulamuti–Kamuli–Bukungu (127km), Kitgum–Kidepo (115km) and Laropi–Moyo–Afoji (39.3km), among others.
For the people of Nebbi and Goli, the proposed upgrading of the 16km road could improve connectivity, reduce transport challenges and strengthen access to markets and social services, particularly for communities along the route.
The announcement comes amid growing calls for improved road infrastructure in the wider West Nile region, where better road connectivity remains critical to trade, agriculture, tourism and regional mobility.
The Government has also listed Nebbi–Arua (80km) among roads to be rehabilitated under a separate 359.5km rehabilitation programme.
The inclusion of both routes places West Nile among areas expected to benefit from continued investment in road infrastructure.
AfricaPamoja-UG will continue monitoring the implementation of these road projects and their impact on communities across West Nile.
