PLU DISOWNS CIRCULATING LETTER CLAIMING WESTERN UGANDA REGIONAL COORDINATOR ROLE

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has issued an official clarification distancing its leadership from a circulating letter allegedly appointing Mr. Agaba Gerald as the organisation’s Regional Coordinator for Western Uganda, describing the communication as unauthorised and misleading.

In the clarification, the organisation urged its members and the general public to disregard the letter, insisting that regional and sub-regional coordinators are appointed by the PLU National Chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The statement further reaffirmed the appointment of Hon. Balaam Barugahara as PLU Vice Chairman for the Western Region, placing regional coordination under the established leadership structure.

ANKOLE LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE REAFFIRMED

The clarification also identified Mr. Nzeire Shadrack as the PLU Coordinator for the Ankole Sub-region, deputised by Mr. Tabaro Didas Tumwesigye, while Mr. Polly Katwiire serves as the spokesperson for Ankole.

According to the statement, these appointments were made by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba on 16 February 2024, with the list subsequently released by former PLU General Secretary, Hon. Daudi Kabanda.

The appointed officials were expected to operate under the supervision and guidance of Hon. Balaam Barugahara in his capacity as Vice Chairman for the Western Region.

The statement expressed disappointment over the circulating letter, emphasising that no member should assume a regional leadership position without formal appointment by the National Chairman. It added that the matter was being addressed internally.

TUKO PAMOJA TASK FORCE DECLARED TEMPORARY

In a related clarification, the organisation stated that the Tuko Pamoja (NRM/PLU) Task Force was established as a temporary initiative to support campaign activities between November 2025 and February 2026.

The statement commended those who participated in the task force, recognising their contribution to the campaign that delivered victory for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The clarification stressed that the task force was intended for that specific campaign period, distinguishing its temporary mandate from the organisation's established leadership structures.

CALL FOR RESPECT FOR OFFICIAL APPOINTMENTS

The statement concluded by urging PLU members and the general public to respect official appointments and disregard communications that contradict the organisation's recognised leadership arrangements.

The development highlights the importance of clear communication, accountability and adherence to established appointment procedures within political organisations.

AfricaPamoja-UG will continue to follow developments concerning PLU leadership and organisational coordination.
